The main university campus in the city of Las Vegas (pop. 1.5 M), the University of Nevada Las Vegas Campus (student pop. 75,000), has been developing a continuos expansion program since its foundation in 1957. The site assigned for the new facility is located next to the existing Thomas & Mack Stadium, on the southwest corner of campus (Tropicana and Swenson Avenues). With a seating capacity of 5,500, the Cox Pavilion will be home to sports events, graduation commencements, conventions, rallies, and other student activities.
