Authorities, artists, educators, friends, ladies and gentlemen. I have the pleasure to introduce EDGARDO GOTTFRIED.


Edgardo is an enthusiastic young man. He designs works of architecture with ease. He participates in prestigious international competitions. He paints and writes. This exhibition is a small sample of the many facets of his work. He is a vehement artist who primarily projects architecture, but his creative vein, never satisfied, often turns to the area of paint, and frees him from architectural formalism and technicalities, and reveals his identity as artist and person.


His paintings have a value of their own and are related to architecture in so far as they are part of the constructive design, and emerge naturally as an additional value.


His style, expressionist, perhaps abstract, can be related, without a doubt, to reality the sense of abstract art as something that does not exist, or in any case, that all art is an abstraction of reality. The forms in his painting could be buildings streamlined and divorced of engineering which is the natural spouse of an architectural construction, and which Gottfried does without in his art. On the other hand, the modern literary or plastic work of art is open: the meditative aspect gives way to the associative dignifying each impression. The reality can appear fragmented, the meaning can not be explained or labeled, but left to the spontaneous reaction of the spectator: the interpretation can be multiple. According to Kandinsky, a major exponent of abstract expressionism, the reception of a work of art becomes a personal aesthetic experience which "cannot be moored".


As recognized architects of international, national and provincial fame, Gottfried expresses his personality through plastic art with few strong colors, as if he had not yet also finished experiencing the first stage of his production, as far as it is know to me.


There aren't prejudices or technical questions of rigor. What before was a competition panel today is support for a plastic work of art. The colors that are used are the colors that are at hand. I say this not as a criticism to improvisation, but as a recognition of the creative talent which nothing can stop: neither contingencies of the daily life nor stylistic requirements which as we know give rise to individual artistic style. In effect, the search of new techniques and new possibilities destroys a good part of stylistic conventions and codified aesthetics which is characteristic of modernity and abstract art. In other words, the power of emotional impact on the spectator is achieved by means of twisted forms and aggressive composition.


In synthesis, Gottfried looks for authenticity in painting, the pure act of painting, that is to say, the forms, the spots and the textures. Really, the expression of the inner world of the artist as opposed to any preconceived and rational structuring. In him the aspect of the action predominates over the physical act of painting.
